The first day at The Golf Club of Avon belonged to the next generation of LPGA Tour stars.

Rookies Megha Ganne and Mirabel Ting each carded opening-rounds of 5-under 66on Thursday to share the lead after 18 holes of the Hartford HealthCare Women's Championship presented by Munich Re, giving two of the tour's brightest young talents an early advantage in one of the season's premier events.

With cool temperatures, light winds and receptive conditions greeting the field, both players took advantage. Ting leaned on steady ball striking and a hot putter, hitting 16 greens in regulation while missing just one fairway. Ganne answered in the afternoon wave with an equally impressive round of her own, highlighted by an eagle on her final hole that vaulted the Stanford University alumna into a share of the lead.

"I would say my putting [was big today]," Ting said. "I was putting really well all morning and hitting shots close helps. I hit the fairway today. I only missed one fairway, and I hit 16 greens. So, there was a lot of good, but there's also a lot to work on. I wouldn't really dwell on the round today."

For Ting, the performance is another step in what has already been one of the strongest rookie campaigns on the Epson Tour. The former Florida State University standout entered the week with six top-10 finishes and currently sits in ninth place in the Race for the Card standings, and Thursday's round only strengthened her position.

Ganne, meanwhile, continues to build momentum after earning Epson Tour membership through the LPGA Collegiate Advancement Pathway program. The 2025 U.S. Women's Amateur champion mixed in two birdies with an eagle on her final hole, No. 9, turning in a 4-under 32 on her closing nine before finishing alongside Ting atop the leaderboard. A native of Holmdel, New Jersey, Ganne was joined by her parents and swing coach on the bag.

“I love playing golf in the Northeast.” Ganne said. “I'm not too far from home, so I like the style of golf course, and I think it just takes really good ball striking and keeping yourself below the hole and staying patient on these greens, which I think I did well today. I don't find it super-scorable, so I think just taking the birdies when they come is something that I did well.”

One stroke back is Yurika Tanida, whose 4-under 67 featured five birdies and just one bogey. The Michigan State alumna credited her round to a simple game plan after reaching her goal of hitting at least 14 greens in regulation.

"This week's goal was to hit at least 14 greens, and I was able to do that today," Tanida said. "I hit 14 greens, so I think my approach shots were really good. I was also able to make a couple of putts, so it was a great day."

Four players sit another shot behind at 3-under, including LPGA Tour members Camille Boyd and Gurleen Kaur, who returned to the Epson Tour this week to compete in one of the circuit's limited four-round events, alongside fellow rookie Kary Hollenbaugh and Christine Wang.

With just two strokes separating first from fourth after the opening round, Friday promises another tightly contested day as a pair of rookies look to hold off a crowded field in Avon, CT.
