Mirabel Ting has clinched her LPGA Tour card in her very first season as a professional — one of the earliest players in this year's Epson Tour class to punch her ticket to the game's top level for 2027. But ask her what it means, and her answer starts somewhere else entirely: with her father, her grandfather, and a sister who has carried far more than a golf bag this year.

“It's kind of my dream since I was a little kid,” Ting said of hearing herself called an LPGA Tour rookie for the first time. “And obviously my grandfather's dream, my dad's dream, my grandmother's dream, and my sister's dream too. So, part of wanting to be on the LPGA is also because of her. I want to be there and do my best.”

The road here has not been a straight line. Ting arrived in the U.S. from Malaysia, as a 17-year-old freshman at Augusta University in the fall of 2022. Two months into her college career, on her way to her first collegiate tournament, she learned that her father, Thomas, had died of a heart attack. She left school multiple times that Fall to grieve at home before returning in the spring, where she still managed a win and five more top 7 finishes despite everything. She transferred to Florida State University the following summer.

What followed at FSU was a season for the record books: seven collegiate wins, the 2025 Annika Award as the top player in Division I women's golf, ACC Golfer of the Year, and All-America honors, built on a game her coaches have called among the best ball-striking in the country. She turned professional in July 2025 and made her tour debut at the Amundi Evian Championship carrying the memory of her father and her grandfather, who had passed only weeks earlier.

Even now, with a rookie season that includes a runner-up finish at the Hartford HealthCare Women's Championship and borderline back-to-back victories at the Smoky Mountain Championship and the Dream First Bank Charity Classic, Ting says professional golf hasn't gotten any easier. “I think pro golf still finds ways to humble me,” she said. “Golf will always teach you how to be humble — not every day is great, not every day is a good day, and there will always be bad days. When you're playing well, there's a lot to be grateful for, and even when you're not playing well, it's always better to look at the brighter side than not.”

No storyline defines her rookie year more than the one involving her sister, Michelle, who has caddied for her all season. It's a relationship that Ting has described as a work in progress that turned into her biggest asset. “I feel like we went through a lot this year, and it took us quite a few tournaments to actually figure things out — my distances, what kind of player I am, what I'm thinking under pressure, things like that,” Ting said. “We worked things out by talking to each other, and I think that's been a big part of my golf this year and for the last two years.”

That partnership was on full display at the Smoky Mountain Championship in August, where Ting beat Rachel Kuehn in a playoff for her first Epson Tour title. On the winning hole, with 155 yards in and a decision to make, Ting wanted to hit less club than her sister thought the shot called for. “I wanted to pull an eight at first, and my sister looked at me and said she didn't think I could get there with an eight — that a seven would be nicer,” Ting recalled. She trusted the call, hit the seven, and went on to make the birdie putt.

That win came with an emotional undercurrent that went beyond the trophy. Ting has spoken openly about how much she has had to lean on her sister since her father's death — and how hard that has sometimes been for her. “I've been independent since my dad passed,” she said in the aftermath of that Tennessee win. “I took a step back, and I realized she's here to help me, not to hurt me — she's here to guide me through, and I have to listen.” Asked what her father might say to her now, she didn't hesitate: “I think he's proud.”

Two missed cuts earlier this season nearly derailed the year before it started clicking, Ting said — and it was that same willingness to listen to her sister that turned things around. “The two missed cuts I had really got me thinking about what was happening,” Mirabel said. “A lot of things had to switch after that, starting with really listening to what my sister had to say. It started showing improvement from the cut I missed in South Bend onward, and it just worked out nicely from there.” A second win, in Kansas at the Dream First Bank Charity Classic, followed weeks later and pushed her to the top of the Race for the Card standings — a season that has made her the first Malaysian golfer to chart this particular path onto the LPGA Tour through the Epson Tour.

Ting says she tries not to let that kind of attention change anything. “It doesn't really matter to me what other people say or think back home,” she said. “To me, it's just that I'm doing what I can and playing my best for my country, and that's what I'm proud of, regardless of the results.”

As for what's next, Ting isn't pretending the jump to the LPGA will be seamless — she points to crowds, not competition, as something she expects to get used to. But when asked what she wanted to say to the people who would not be there to see her make that jump in person, her answer circled back to where it started. “This has been their longest dream,” she said of her father and grandfather, “and being able to see their only granddaughter and only daughter in the family make it there is really a dream come true for them, even though they're not here. So, to the two of them, I'd say: I've done it, and I'll continue working hard.”
