Epson Tour rookie Christine Wang may have only just started her professional golf journey, but at 23 years old, she has already gained a lifetime of insight and perspective that is typically developed over years of missed cuts, close calls and triumphant victories.

That’s because, for Wang, golf is more than just birdies and bogeys. She understands the impact the game has had on her development and appreciates the opportunities it has provided, like the four-year education she got at the University of Southern California.

Golf has opened door after door for Wang, which is why she took to social media during her time at USC to begin documenting her life and to provide a positive platform for young girl golfers to follow.

Since making the transition from posting personal pictures with friends to creating golf-focused content, Wang has seen her Instagram following grow from a few thousand to more than 23K fans eager to like her next post.

“I started posting on social media because I felt like there were not enough good girl’s golf role models on the platform,” Wang explained. “I found that most golf influencers might not be someone who plays competitively, so I wanted to show young girls who are on Instagram just scrolling what goes into this, and more importantly, that they can do this. I also wanted to show them that golf can be both really competitive and fun at the same time.”

Wang has no intentions of adjusting her posting schedule any time soon, even as she makes her first LPGA Tour start at the Black Desert Championship presented by Greater Zion because for Wang, this is the ultimate opportunity to bring the game closer to those who have goals of playing professionally one day, something she dreamed of since first picking up the game when she was seven after her mom discovered LPGA*USGA Girls Golf.

Dating back to 1989, this global program has introduced more than one million girls to the game through on- and off-course activities centered around what the organization refers to as their “The Five Es” (Empower, Engage, Enrich, Energize and Exercise). Girls Golf is about much more than just learning the game, though. It also provides a safe space where girls can grow into better versions of themselves.

“As you can imagine, there were not very many girls who played every day at the golf course when I was growing up,” Wang said. “It was a lot of boys, and I felt really left out. My mom found Girls Golf on a Google search, and when we went to the first class, it was mind-blowing. I remember being shocked that there were other girls who played golf. So, I think it was really good for me when I was just starting out to have to see other people that are like me playing as well.”

This sentiment is quite common among alumni of the program, who positively reflect on having had a supportive place to learn and enjoy the game. Alumni often credit Girls Golf with providing a structure through which they could grow as both a golfer and a person.

“We played a lot of games, which I loved. They made golf more approachable for a little kid,” Wang explained. “But there was much more to it than just golf. They taught a lot of core values, like integrity, and I know that that was really helpful when I first started playing competitive junior events because it gave me something to fall back on.

“These values just gave me a really strong foundation as I started working my way up the junior ranks.”

Girls Golf uses the tagline “Little Girls, BIG Dreams,” which it reinforces by providing opportunities for members to meet LPGA players at clinics and tournaments across the country. These inspiring experiences not only provide the girls with unforgettable memories, but they often lead members to aspire to follow in that player’s footsteps. This is certainly the case for Wang, who once got to meet two-time major winner Stacy Lewis.

“I’m from Houston, and I still remember so clearly when my local site brought in Stacy for the day,” Wang shared. “I remember me and my friend were in awe that a professional LPGA player was there to talk with us, teach us and play with us.”

Fast forward to 2025, where the accomplished junior player and 2023 Pac-12 Conference Champion will now come full circle as she tees it up in her first LPGA tournament, the Black Desert Championship presented by Greater Zion, which has a field that includes none other than the aforementioned Lewis. This is just the latest in a series of dreams that have been achieved by Wang, who has become a master of manifestation.

“Golf has opened so many doors for me, not just within the golf world, but outside of it as well,” Wang said. “I ended up getting a scholarship to go to the University of Southern California, where I was a business major. But even as I was playing in school, I felt like being able to say that I'm a golfer to other people in business has been really helpful for me to open doors and opportunities to internships and other experiences.

“I saw this study that said a majority of C-suite female executives were once athletes, and I think that just goes to show how much playing sports like golf can help girls to build confidence and find the self-belief in themselves to go out there and get what they want.”

Wang has certainly made the most of her opportunities, which included becoming the first athlete sponsored by Featherie, a high-performance golf attire company founded by a 14-year-old girl in 2023. The company’s mission is to provide women golfers with the confidence that comes with having clothing that is both stylish and made for the course.
Featherie and Wang were a perfect match for a number of reasons, as they have a shared goal of growing the game for girls and women by utilizing social media as the driving force to do so.

“Featherie has a goal to make every girl feel confident, stylish and comfortable while they play, which was something I struggled with when I was younger,” Wang shared. “Speaking from experience, when I was younger, I wore these big, boxy, thick polos that made me look like a boy. Combine those with Bermuda shorts and a big hat, and I just didn’t like the way I looked, and I definitely didn't feel confident. I didn't feel like a cute girl when I was younger and playing.

“I know this experience is shared by a lot of different young girls playing, so I’m very thankful to be associated with a brand that is changing that for the next generation.”

As Wang makes her childhood dream a reality in Ivins, Utah, she can’t help but feel that everything has led to this moment. For example, she would not even be here if not for her choice to start creating golf content.

Wang’s social media attracted the interest of The Golf Girl Games, which was created to catapult women’s golf into the spotlight by blending top-notch golf with engaging personalities, showcased across social media channels, including Instagram and YouTube.

In an effort to amplify the sponsor exemption that the Black Desert Championship presented by Greater Zion was offering, The Golf Girl Games hosted an 18-hole tournament that featured Wang and fellow Epson Tour players Abby Daniel and Alexa Melton at Black Desert Resort in early April. Wang shot a 2-under 70, which included a birdie on the final hole to seal the win and ultimately earn a spot in the field at the inaugural edition of the championship.

And if there’s anything Wang has learned from her personal journey thus far, lessons that will serve her well in her LPGA debut, it’s to make the most of every moment and to enjoy it all.

“I always tell girls who are just starting out to have fun with it,” Wang said. “You always play your best when you’re relaxed and having a lot of fun. There’s also more to life than just golf. I think we all need to remember that it’s just a game, which means you’re supposed to have fun, and if you’re not having fun, then you’re probably doing something wrong.”

Wang has leaned on this point of view for the better part of 15 years, and it has certainly played a pivotal role in her journey to Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah.

“I've always thought that I was going to be a professional golfer, ever since my first swing at the golf club at age seven,” Wang said. “So, it's finally here. I'm ready to go, and I believe in myself. I am so excited to see how I do.”
