Low winds and low scores were the two main things to take away from the second round of the Copper Rock Championship. The morning wave once again had almost no wind to contend with, and several players took advantage. None more than Melanie Green, who carded an 8-under 64 to get to 13-under for the tournament, giving the afternoon wave a number to chase.

Green has yet to make a bogey in the first 36 holes of play at Copper Rock Golf Course, rolling in 13 birdies along the way. The second-round performance was as steady as an 8-under round could be, with the Epson Tour rookie avoiding any major trouble throughout the round. The birdies did not come in droves, however, but more spread out.

Although the back nine did start and end with back-to-back birdies, they were her only circles on the card for the nine, with a string of five pars splitting the birdies. The Friday morning performance puts the 23-year-old in the final grouping in the final round for the first time in her career.

“Yeah, I'm excited to play with some great players and excited to see what tomorrow holds,” explained Green. “I’m not going to put too much pressure on myself, but I'm excited for a good day of golf.”

First-round leader Hailee Cooper was the chaser in the afternoon, and she put together a roller coaster of a second round. The 25-year-old started the day quickly once again, making two birdies in her first three holes, but had her first blemish of the week on hole four, making a bogey. She bounced back with a birdie on hole five and would stay at 2-under on the day until the turn.

The back nine was more of the same, making two birdies in her first three holes, but she made her biggest number of the week with a double bogey, six, on hole 13. Cooper got the two shots back immediately, making back-to-back birdies on the next two holes to get to 13-under. She would stay there until the end of the round and shares the lead with Green heading into the final day. This is the third final grouping in four weeks for the Texas native, demonstrating the excellent golf she has been playing throughout the whole West Coast Swing.

“I talked about it with my dad and my caddie today. We were playing this like three one-day tournaments, and I won the first day. That's great. That day is over. Today we didn't win,” said Cooper about being in the last group. “Take the L but go tomorrow and try to win tomorrow. Just the whole day. It's just a one-day tournament and go out and see what happens.”

Carla Tejedo Mulet will join the leaders in the final grouping after a 5-under second round, as the final round will be split tee threesomes. Play will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the leaders set to take to the course at 9:31 a.m. local time.
