Life on the Road to the LPGA can get a little lonely. Sure, you make friends along the way, but being away from home and family can be tough at times. Lucky for Angelica and Benedetta Moresco, who are both competing on the Epson Tour this year, that isn’t too much of an issue for the 2024 season.
The sisters played collegiate golf together at the University of Alabama, inseparable until 2023, when Angelica left college for her rookie year on the Epson Tour. The older Italian felt some of that loneliness, even though she was making friends and memories on Tour, and is now happy to have her sister back by her side in 2024.
“Last year was a little weird and lonely at times because sometimes I was by myself,” said Angelica. “I have some great friends out here that I travel with, but you know, it's never the same. Having a sister by your side, it's definitely a bonus. We live together, and we're still based in Alabama, so that helps even in the off weeks. We're still practicing together and everything. So that makes it so much easier.”
And while she had the example of her older sister to follow, Benedetta was a bit worried about starting this new journey and the loneliness that often comes with being a professional golfer, fears that have been assuaged having Angelica around. “One of my biggest concerns coming into my rookie year was a lot of traveling and doing it by myself,” said the younger Moresco. “With Angie, it's super helpful being together.”
With a 20-tournament season ahead, most siblings would anticipate tiffs and disagreements. Not the Morescos, though. The built-in best friends love being together and have supported each other’s golf journeys for years now.
They are also hoping to feed off each other’s energy this season. So far, Benedetta has been leaning on Angelica’s experience, asking for advice and listening intently. And Angelica is hoping to be reminded of the free feeling that comes along with being a rookie. Admiring different parts of each other’s games, together the two will be a perfect balance, a sisterly yin and yang that – as they often joke about – will be the perfect scramble team one day.
“Your rookie year, you're always excited. You're just a little bit clueless about what's going on. And I feel like I need that kind of mindset too,” said Angelica. “Last year was a great learning experience for me, so I think we balance each other out really well. It'll be fun.”
When asked about their individual goals, both sisters said the same thing. They both want LPGA Tour cards and both want to have fun. But the conversation always seems to come back to them being a unit, bonded together by familial love and the game of golf.
“My goal is the same, trying to stay in the present every tournament, trying to play my best,” said Benedetta. “Of course, I want to do well and get my full LPGA card. And for Angie, I would like to see her get her an LPGA card as well. And also win a tournament. That would be fabulous.”
