It’s been almost a year since Gabby Lemieux made an unfortunate mistake at Stage I of LPGA Qualifying School, costing her membership for the 2024 Epson Tour season. The Idaho native unintentionally signed for a lower score, resulting in a DQ from the tournament.
However, that mistake did not stop Lemieux from pursuing her dreams of playing on the LPGA Tour. The Texas Tech University alum is still grinding in the golf world, playing some events on the ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour and taking advantage of an Epson Tour sponsor exemption at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship.
“I think getting the invite is super special. This year I wasn't even thinking that I was going to be playing in any Epson Tour events,” said Lemieux. “I was really hoping to get into some, but now that I got the chance to play in it, this place always kind of feels like home. It was the first place I ever made my first cut. So, to come back here and get a chance to play amongst the best in the world is pretty phenomenal.”
Lemieux proved in Friday’s opening round that she still has what it takes to compete on the Epson Tour. She posted a 2-under, 70 with five birdies and three bogeys and found herself in a share of fourth. With 36 holes to play at Battle Creek Country Club, anything can happen. But Lemieux is focused on attacking pins, making birdies and taking advantage of her shot to get back on the Road to the LPGA.
“It's almost like you only get one chance,” said Lemieux. “Why not just go and try and make the best of it? Obviously, with golf, you always have to play conservatively at some point, but for the most part, you just try and go out there and make as many birdies as you can. And I think that's kind of where I was at today.”
Lemieux is off Battle Creek Country Club’s tenth at 12:41 pm local time. Fans can watch live from 3-6 pm local time HERE.
