When Amelia Garvey teed it up for her final round at the NXXT Women’s Championship, she was just trying to get some reps in before the start of the Epson Tour season. But Garvey ultimately ended up with one of the craziest-looking scorecards of her young career, and while it was not one of the lowest scores the game of golf has ever seen, it was definitely a one-in-a-million round for Garvey.
The New Zealand native made an ace, an albatross and an eagle all before reaching the 14th hole. And to add to the improbability of the round, Garvey recorded a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 on her scorecard before posting a 6-under 66, something not many golfers can say they’ve ever done.
“I made an eagle on the first, which was nice. Quick start to the round, and then made a couple of bogeys after that. I was like, back to even par,” said Garvey, whose final-round 66 was seven shots better than her second-lowest round of the week. “Then I made a hole-in-one on the sixth hole. I was ready to go straight to the clubhouse, but I finished out the round, and got to the 13th, and ended up holing my (second) shot on a par 5 for an albatross. And I've never had an albatross before, so that was kind of cool that I ticked it off. But then I'm like, wait, I made a hole-in-one as well. So, just a wild day.”
Now, Garvey is ready to get her 2024 Epson Tour season started at the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic. She finished 36th in the 2023 Race for the Card, just one spot away from automatically qualifying for LPGA Q-Series, but the 23-year-old has her expectations set higher than just the top 35 this year.
“The top 15 this year (is my goal),” said Garvey. “It is great for those extra five spots stacked on in the Race for the Card. Also, I am looking to win my first event out here. I'm excited to be back out here and take every week as it comes and play again.”
Garvey tees off on hole No. 10 on Friday, March 8 at 8:06 a.m. in her first round of the Epson Tour season. Follow along with live scoring here.
