There is nothing more nerve-wracking in golf than a playoff, especially when it’s a playoff to get into your first LPGA Tour event. In her second season on the Epson Tour, Teresa Toscano has an exciting few weeks ahead of her. The Spaniard qualified for the 78th U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links at the end of May to secure her first start in the U.S. Women’s Open. That fire stayed lit for Toscano this week, who went out and tackled Blythefield Country Club to Monday qualify for the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give in Belmont, Michigan.
“I’m looking forward to a great experience. The qualifier was a little crazy with the four-person playoff, but it was good to get through, and I’m excited to be here,” said Toscano. “It’s the first time playing on the LPGA [Tour], and I’m really excited.”
Playing in your first LPGA Tour event is always a memorable experience, but when a best friend (Maria Parra) is on the bag for you, it makes it a little more special and fun.
“We’ve known each other since we were six years old, so we’re best friends,” said Toscano. “She’s like my sister here, so it’s so nice to travel with someone you know that well and have fun all of the time.”
Parra is excited for her longtime friend and is a strong player in her own right, winning the 2019 IOA Invitational on the Epson Tour. Parra knows how well her best friend is playing and will do her best to guide her around her first LPGA Tour experience.
“She’s a good friend, so I’m happy to help her on the course,” said Parra. “She’s playing really good, so she has to stay calm and play the best she can.”
Toscano has completed her first round and is currently two shots off the cutline after an opening 73 (+1) at Blythefield Country Club. She tees off for her second round at 2:16 PM ET.
