Karen Chung
Karen Chung is returning to El Campeón Golf Course after a top-10 finish in 2022. Chung earned dual status after the 2022 LPGA Qualifying Tournament, playing in only three events so far on the Epson Tour in 2023. The 28-year-old has made all three cuts in her 2023 campaign, with a T3 finish at the Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic. Since her rookie season in 2017, Chung has 17 top-10 finishes in 74 starts on the Epson Tour, meaning she has a 23% chance each week to end up in the top 10. With past success at El Campeón and strong performances earlier this year, look for Chung’s name on the leaderboard come the weekend.
Selena Costabile
Selena Costabile has had an up-and-down season, to say the least. The Canadian has only made the cut in three out of her seven events, but every cut she has made has been a top-10 finish. Two of those top finishes came at the last two tournaments, ending up 6th and T7, respectively. Costabile has yet to have an over-par round in the previous two events while carding a career-best 64 (-8) at the Garden City Charity Classic at Buffalo Dunes. There has not been much success at the Inova Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship for Costabile, missing the cut in her only two starts at the event. Still, the solid play she has been displaying over the last two weeks will look to change her fortunes heading into this week. It has been an interesting season, but the 24-year-old is currently in a great position to make a push for the Race for the Card Top 10 with a few more strong finishes.
Beatrice Wallin
Beatrice Wallin has had one of the sneakier great seasons of 2023 so far. Wallin has only missed one cut in 2023 with one recorded top-10 finish. Despite only one top-10, Wallin finds herself at No.19 on the Race for the Card standings and very well within striking distance of the coveted top-10 spots. Wallin has had several finishes in the top 20 and has only finished outside the top 30 twice in seven events. The solid play on the Epson Tour translates to solid play off the tour. The Swede qualified for the 2023 US Women’s Open by carding a 36-hole total of 136 and winning her spot in a three for two playoff. This will be Wallin’s first visit to El Campeón Golf Course, but it shouldn’t be a problem for her, with every course she has played this year.>
