Just three months ago, Italian Benedetta Moresco was trying to join her older sister, Angelica Moresco, on the Epson Tour by making the cut at LPGA and Epson Tour Qualifying Tournament Stage I. Moresco admitted the nerves at Stage I had her game feeling “up and down”, but the ups that week far outweighed the downs. The 22-year-old had the second lowest round of the week at Mission Hills Country Country Club with a 7-under 65, which helped her to a T26 finish, earning Moresco a spot in the field at Stage II.
“Coming into Stage I, I knew it was going to be a long process,” said Moresco. “Stage I was just an up and down of emotions. I was pretty nervous.”
Moresco proved she belonged when she got to Stage II. After carding rounds of 76, 71 and 72 in the first three rounds, the new professional needed a strong final round to make her way to LPGA Q-Series, and with her back against the wall, she ultimately delivered.
“I knew I needed a low score when I was going into my final round,” Moresco said. “One thing I like about myself is that I like to play under pressure. In that final round, my putter was on fire and my strategy was just to be aggressive and commit to every shot. I was able to do that and was happy it went well.”
Now, as Benedetta prepares for her first LPGA Q-Series, she does so without some extra advice from her sister Angelica, who played in both Stage I and II this year. Angelica provided valuable information about the previous courses and what it means to be a professional golfer to her younger sister. Unfortunately, Angelica fell just short of playing alongside her little sister at Q-Series, but Benedetta is confident in her game and knows Angelica will be cheering her on as she works to earn LPGA Tour Membership for the 2024 season.
“Angie has always been super close to me and really helped me out during Stage I and II,” said Moresco. “In general, she is just always encouraging me. Telling me to never give up and always give it my best. I am just really thankful for her.”
