TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA | The 108-player field for the inaugural Tuscaloosa Toyota Classic has been finalized by the Epson Tour. The “Road to the LPGA” returns to the Yellowhammer State for the second time in its final four-week stretch. The second to last event of the season will be held at Ol’ Colony Golf Course from September 30th to October 2nd.
Individuals will compete in a 54-hole, stroke-play format for $200,000 and a winner’s share of $30,000. A cut will be made to the top 60 and ties after 36 holes. Admission for the tournament is free.
“The Tuscaloosa Toyota Classic Tournament has provided an opportunity for the entire Tuscaloosa community to work together to host and support a first-class professional sports event,” said Tournament Director, Loo Whitfield. “The tournament has been organized by volunteers and supported by local agencies and businesses. We are excited to showcase Ol’ Colony, a top-quality championship golf course and we are committed to growing the game of golf in our community.”
Nine of the top-10 players in the Ascensus Race for the Card will compete for this week’s title, as well as 14 of 17 champions from the 2022 season. The Epson Tour’s most recent winner, Britney Yada, will also tee it up following her first Epson Tour victory at the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout.
“I’m just going to try and do what I did last week,” Yada said with a laugh. “I have a lot of confidence heading into the last two events.”
University of Alabama graduates Polly Mack, Lakareber Abe, Kenzie Wright and Jiwon Jeon return to their alma mater in hopes for a victory close to home.
