Last year, Natalie Sheary (New Britain, Connecticut) spent the season rehabbing her shoulder in hopes to return back to the Epson Tour. After eighteen months of no competitive golf, she returned to the Tour at the first event of the 2021 season.
“In 2019, near the end (of the year) I had shoulder surgery. I had a bicep tendon labrum tear,” said Sheary. “I had been told before it’s a 60-70% success rate, which isn’t high, but it got to the point I was playing with it, but I wasn’t able to practice the way that I wanted. Towards the end I said, you know what, I am going to get this thing done. Hopefully it holds and it better than it is now even if that isn’t 100%.”
The 2016 W.B. Mason Champion filmed a weekly instructional series, “Staying Sharp with Sheary” during the COVID-19 break. She provided advice and drills to stay sharp with your game while at home.
“Because I wasn’t playing in a lot of tournaments, I had a lot of time to train and I needed to relearn the game and it was fun to do it along with players at home,” said Sheary. “It was really cool because while I was taping people would walk up to me after and ask me to show them that shot. I would tell them hold on a week and check out on the Epson Tour to see the ‘how to’ video.”
Throughout her amateur and professional career, Sheary’s work ethic has led to an impressive list of accomplishments. Her accolades include 2008 ACC Freshman of the Year, 2009 ACC Player of the Year and 2009 ACC Championship medalist while competing for Wake Forest University. She also won the 2010 Connecticut Women’s along with her 2016 Epson Tour victory.
