Rachel Rohanna rebounded from a double bogey on her opening hole to shoot 5-under par 66 in the second round of the Donald Ross Classic and take the 36-hole advantage on the Donald Ross Course at French Lick Resort by one stroke.
The two-time Epson Tour champion carded a back-nine 30 thanks to five birdies including four straight from Nos. 13-16 to reach 8-under overall. Her performance comes after rounds of 75-75 last week in the Volunteers of America Classic.
“I’ve been feeling really good with my game, just waiting for the numbers to start showing up,” Rohanna said. “Came off a pretty bad last week in Texas. I know that I have been playing too good to be shooting those scores. Glad it is coming together, finally.”
On July 6, Rohanna and husband Ethan Virgili celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary. She is using that excitement and relying on past knowledge of the host venue to set the pace in French Lick, Ind.
“This is always a nice time of year to do something good and fun,” said Rohanna. “This course is really not easy, and I’ve already found some trouble this week. We had Big 10 [Championships] here in 2012 and I played really well, think I finished third. I feel like this course owes me something, should never really think that way. I remember coming so close and I like this course, there’s something about it that fits my eye. Just trying to stay patient and being smart off the tee has been my big thing. I just want to come out of here with a good finish and get some momentum for the second part of the season.”
