WU TAKES NOTES FROM FELLOW UCLA BRUIN PATTY TAVATANAKIT
It was a 4-under par 67 for Beth Wu (Whittier, California) in round one of the Donald Ross Classic, and having a UCLA Bruin at the top of the leaderboard at French Lick Resort feels familiar. Her former collegiate teammate Patty Tavatanakit won this event in 2019, and Wu said it’s been inspiring to watch her colleague have success on the LPGA Tour.
“Watching Patty on Tour and win the ANA this year was really fun,” said Wu, whose 67 is her season-best 18-hole score. “It’s really inspiring to watch her because we were teammates and she works so hard. I just try to be like her.”
With that inspiration in mind and the good momentum that comes with a solid first round, Wu isn’t concerned with getting too far ahead of herself just yet at French Lick.
“I’ve just got to remind myself where my feet are,” said Wu. “I do have a tendency to get ahead of myself so I have been working on it, just on staying present. It’s easier said than done.”
