After carding four birdies to close round three at -15 overall at the Carolina Golf Classic, Amanda Doherty (Atlanta, Georgia) moved into solo second with 18 holes to play at Forest Oaks Country Club.
“I knew it could be a tough day out there with the pins a little more tucked so I really had to stay patient out there,” said Doherty. “Especially coming into the day with a lead, you really just have to take it one hole at a time.”
Doherty was cheered on by not only the fans standing behind No. 18, but also a few family members who walked all 18 holes with her today. With a big grin on her face, she explained that not only was she happy to have them there, but she was also proud of her 89-year-old grandfather who walked the whole way.
“It’s always awesome, just to hang out with my family off the course too. Between everything it really helps take your mind off golf,” said Doherty. “I think this is the first event that they have come to this season so that is special, and I am impressed with them walking around the course. It is fun too when you have family here too and are playing well. You don’t always have control over that.”
