Epson Tour professional Natalie Sheary (New Britain, Connecticut) returns for Episode 2 of her weekly instructional series, “Staying Sharp with Sheary.” A Wake Forest University alumna and past Epson Tour champion at the 2016 W.B. Mason Championship, Sheary provides some advice and drills to stay sharp with your game—both physically and mentally—while at home.
“We all know that hard work is an intricate part of success,” said Sheary. “However, working hard doesn’t necessarily mean doing something ‘all day long.’ If you were to invest 10 minutes toward a goal with total intent and purpose, a lot can be accomplished.”
This week, Sheary shares how she gets the most out of her range sessions. If courses are closed around you, this may only be a mental preparation until you can get back practicing outside.
No matter the amount of time available, Sheary always splits her practice into two segments. The first is focused on technical aspects including alignment rods and swing thoughts, while the second takes the training wheels off and imitates shots she may face on the course.
“If you allow yourself to go all in, thus giving it 100 percent effort and attention, time doesn’t matter as much as focus and consistency. Sometimes, working smarter and more productively for a few minutes can be very effective,” Sheary added.
