The Volvik Race for the Card welcomes a fresh top-10 following the sixth tournament of the 2019 Epson Tour campaign, although the top-two remain the same in Julieta Granada (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Leona Maguire (County Cavan, Ireland).
Granada is setting the pace at $49,790, but Maguire is only $2,250 behind. After the duo is most recent Epson Tour champion Maria Parra (Guadiaro, Spain). Coming off her first win on the “Road to the LPGA” at the second annual IOA Invitational, she has earned $30,345 through six starts and climbs 23 spots.
“I'm feeling great on the course over these events to start the year,” said Parra, who has made the cut each week. “I was not really playing good last year and I'm so happy now. I worked a lot this offseason and I'm seeing the scores from all my good work. Moving into the top-10 means a lot for me, but this is just the start and I need to keep working.”
Checking in at No. 4 is Jillian Hollis (Rocky River, Ohio) having captured $28,436 across five starts, just $786 ahead of Cydney Clanton (Concord, North Carolina). In her second competitive event of the season, the Auburn University alumna recorded a second top-five finish thanks to a tied for fifth result at Atlanta National Golf Club.
Leading the second half of the top-10 is Kelly Tan (Batu Pahat, Malaysia) and Lauren Coughlin (Charlottesville, Virginia), both down two places. Then it is Ssu-Chia Cheng (Taipei, Chinese Taipei) with $22,349 coming off a tied for second showing in the Peach State. A total of $3,831 separates this trio.
Rounding out the group is Madison Pressel (Boca Raton, Florida), who jumped 11 spots with a tied for second finish in the IOA Invitational, and Dewi Weber (Groningen, Netherlands) at $20,921.
“So excited to jump into the top-10, first time in my Epson Tour career that I’ve been in this position,” said Pressel. “I’ve been feeling so great about where my game is and how I’m able to get around the course even when I’m not hitting the ball well. Long season ahead, but proud to have put myself in a good position to start.”
At the end of the season, the top-10 players in the Volvik Race for the Card standings will graduate onto the LPGA Tour for the 2020 season.
