DECATUR, Ill. — With her incredible performance at the Four Winds Invitational, Maia Schechter (Chapel Hill, N.C.) launched 125 spots up the standings in the Volvik Race for the Card from No. 132 to No. 7.
As the move of the week on the Epson Tour, it comes as part of two firsts in Schechter’s professional golf career: her first win on Tour, and the first time she finds herself in the top-10.
“It’s still early in the season, so it’s just one week at a time,” said Schechter. “This really gave me a lot of confidence moving forward and feeling like I do belong on the LPGA [Tour]. Also feeling like I belong in the top-10 on the Epson Tour.”
Just $291 behind Schechter is Louise Ridderstrom (Stocksund, Sweden), who took a week off after claiming the inaugural Valley Forge Invitational crown. From there, Lauren Kim (Los Altos, California) is only $61 back of Ridderstrom, and Charlotte Thomas (Guildford, England) rounds out the top-10.
Meanwhile, Jenny Haglund (Karlstad, Sweden) still has the No. 1 position on lockdown, but there is a new No. 2 in Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Illinois). She passed Dottie Ardina (Laguna, Philippines) with a tied for 19th finish at the Four Winds Invitational to collect $1,555.
Ardina slides down one spot to No. 3 and is followed by the same individuals from Nos. 4-6 as last week in Vicky Hurst (Melbourne, Florida), Stephanie Meadow (Jordanstown, Northern Ireland) andPajaree Anannarukarn (Bangkok, Thailand).
The road to the LPGA continues this week with the Forsyth Classic at Hickory Point Golf Course, the eighth event of the season.
“Keep checking the fundamentals I think is huge,” Schechter said. “Really, it’s just that each week is different in trying to figure out a new golf course, come up with a game plan and committing to that game plan. You cant’ get complacent because you’re always playing a different golf course and having a new game plan.”
