VOLVIK RACE FOR THE CARD UPDATE

Entering the fifth tournament of the Epson Tour season, the Volvik Race to the Card is as diverse as ever, with seven different countries represented in the top-10.

Collecting a healthy $30,000 winner’s share following her victory on Sunday in the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic, Vicky Hurst (Melbourne, Florida) catapulted into the No. 1 position. The previous week’s No. 1 was Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Illinois), who dropped to No. 2 after a tied for third finish in Greenwood, S.C.

Checking in at No. 3 is Stephanie Meadow (Jordanstown, Northern Ireland). She continued her consistent play on the season with a tied for 26th result last week, shooting even par for the tournament.

“I had three top-10s in the first three events of the year, and a decent finish in South Carolina. My game is there and I’m hitting my spots,” said Meadow. “Staying steady is the key for me early in the season. As long as I can maintain each week and score fairly well, I have the confidence I can keep pushing ahead in the Volvik Race for the Card.”

Meanwhile, Lauren Kim (Los Altos, California) is No. 4 in the rankings and rookie Pajaree Anannarukarn (Bangkok, Thailand), who has recorded three top-10 finishes in her first three Epson Tour starts, is No. 5.

The second half of the top-10, in order from Nos. 6-10, features Dottie Ardina (Laguna, Philippines), Charlotte Thomas (Guildford, England), Daniela Iacobelli (Melbourne, Florida), Brittany Marchand (Mississauga, Ontario) and newcomer Jenny Haglund (Karlstad, Sweden).

“It’s one of the main goals for the season, so it feels pretty good to be in the top-10,” Haglund said. “I know there’s a long way to go and a lot of tournaments. I like the course this week a lot, kind of similar to Swedish courses. I think it fits my game pretty well.”

At the end of the season, the top-10 players in the Volvik Race for the Card standings will graduate onto the LPGA Tour for the 2019 season.
