GREENWOOD, S.C. — Entering the weekend at the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic, four players are tied for first at 3-under par and a total of 61 individuals made the cut of 3-over par.
Vicky Hurst (Melbourne, Florida) and Min Seo Kwak (Seoul, Republic of Korea) are featured in the final pairing tomorrow at 1 p.m., with all play during the third and fourth round starting on No. 1 tee.
“Yesterday, we had a little bit of wind. Today, the wind switched so the course was playing a little bit different,” said Hurst, who carded a 2-under par 70 in round two. “I’m just going to try and do the same thing this weekend. I feel pretty comfortable.”
While Hurst played steady, Kwak was one of eight players that fired in the 60s today, with a 3-under par 69.
The second to last group tomorrow pits Daniela Iacobelli (Melbourne, Florida) and Katelyn Sepmoree (Tyler, Texas). Each got to this point in a different manner after today. Iacobelli recorded an eagle on No. 18, three birdies and three bogeys to shoot 2-under par. For Sepmoree, she battled to an even par round that included four birdies and four bogeys.
“It’s a fun little track,” said Iacobelli, who has played in the last four LPGA Tour events. “I’ve been making some pretty clutch putts. I haven’t been hitting my driver or my irons well, so to see that my putter is kind of picking up the slack has been reassuring.
Just one shot back of the four players at 3-under par is two more competitors—Youngin Chun (Gainesville, Florida) and Kim Welch (Sacramento, California). A total of 16 players find themselves in the red heading into the weekend and with two rounds still to play.
QUIHUIS MISSES GRADUATION, BUT MAKES CUT
Even though she left the University of Arizona a semester early to turn professional, Krystal Quihuis (Tucson, Arizona) still completed her Bachelor’s degree in General Studies with an emphasis in Sports and Society to walk this spring.
However, she’s in Greenwood this week for the fourth event of the Epson Tour season.
“It’s a bittersweet taste,” said Quihuis, who was selected as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2015. “I’m going to miss all my friends and seeing them on a daily basis, but I’m just trying to capture the dream. My game is improving each time I play, so I feel like I made a good decision.”
Last night was the College of Education graduation. Tonight was the ceremony for the University as a whole. Competing in the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic, Quihuis brought her cap and gown to The Links at Stoney Point Golf Club to celebrate 1,909 miles away.
“I feel like I still have homework assignments to do after rounds,” Quihuis said, after using four birdies to overcome three bogeys and shoot 1-under par 71. “I feel accomplished. My mind has always been school-golf-school-golf, and I just focusing on golf, my game is going to keep improving.”
She will head off No. 1 tee at 10:10 tomorrow at 2-over par overall, looking to climb the leaderboard on moving day just a few hours removed from her big day.
