RACHEL ROHANNA AIMING FOR EVIAN AND TOP 10

In ten events on the Epson Tour, Rachel Rohanna ranks 23rd on the Volvik Race for the Card money list. She has also made five starts on the LPGA and will likely get three to five more starts on the big tour.

Therefore, she has two goals in mind this week. Play well enough to win and move up the Epson Tour money list and qualify for the LPGA major. Basically, she wants to secure full LPGA status for 2018 either through the Epson Tour or the LPGA.

Rohanna birdied her first four holes on Friday and made seven total on the day with her husband, Ethan, on the bag.

“I hit some really close shots and still missed some that on a really good putting day I would have made,” said Rohanna. “I made a really good putt from off the green from 40 feet on hole two so that was good.”

Recently, Rohanna made the cut at the Thornberry LPGA Classic in Green Bay (T36) and the Meijer LPGA Classic (T43).

“I’ve been playing well on both tours and it would be great to get into Evian and give myself another chance to earn money and improve my status,” said Rohanna. “I feel like a win this week would do me well on both tours. I feel really good with my game right now.”

Rohanna won the 2015 Sara Bay Classic on the Epson Tour.

LUCIANE LEE CARDS FIRST ROUND IN 60’S

Luciane Lee (Sao Paulo, Brazil) missed two straight cuts and then injured her wrist last week when she hit a root on the ninth hole at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship and had to withdraw. She was feeling down so she phoned her father, Elias, and asked him to fly in (from Torrance, California) and caddy for her.

She got her wish and on Friday at the PHC Classic she posted her lowest round of the year, a 3-under, 69 to stand in a tie for fourth at Brown Deer Park. Lee made four birdies and just one bogey.

“Psychologically, the season has been hard and exhausting so I decided to ask him to fly in and caddy and he decided to come help me,” explained Lee. “I always play well when he is on the bag so it was nice. He is the one that taught me golf, he knows my tendencies so for him to be out here with me helps me relax on the course.”

Lee said that opening with a 69 will help her play loose instead of playing scared of the cut line.

“Missing the cut by one a couple times this season has got to me mentally,” admitted Lee. “To finally know that I gave myself a chance on the first day is really nice.”

BECCA HUFFER PLAYS WELL WITH UNCLE IN TOWN

Becca Huffer’s uncle, TJ, greeted her with a big hug and kiss after she saved par on 18 to post a very impressive 4-under, 68.

“He calls himself my biggest fan so I had to show off for him,” joked Huffer. “Our entire group was under-par so it was just a really fun day.”

Huffer is trending way up of late. She recorded her first top 10 finish of the year last week at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship (T8).

“I’ve been playing really well of late and it feels good to keep the momentum going,” said Huffer. “On a windy day to have a nice round is always good.”

Former Wisconsin Badgers golfer Jessie Gerry (Madison, Wis.) posted an even-par 72 and is in a tie for 24th after round one.
Edgerton native Allyssa Ferrell turned in a 1-over, 73 and is tied for 38th.
