Augusta James (Bath, Ontario) is T13 at (-4) after day two of the IOA Golf Classic. James finished the first round with a total of six birdies this morning, and the second round with five.
James was one of six out of the top 17 players in the field to actually finish the second round due to yesterday’s double rain delay that eventually led to suspension of play.
James ended up playing a total of 26 and a half holes today. “I guess I’ve played 36 hole days in amateur tournaments in college,” said James. “Otherwise, out here, we don’t do that a ton. It’s a pretty different situation today than other days.”
Reflecting on what it was like playing nearly 27 holes in one day, James said, “It was really nice this morning because everything was smooth, whereas yesterday afternoon the greens got a little fluffier. We made the turn and it was the same situation where the greens had a little more grain on them. It was different because you saw all the elements of the day.”
Despite the long day of golf, James has put herself in a great position for the final round.
“I wish I had played a little bit better during the second 18, but I hope I am in a good striking distance,” said James, who continued her second round just minutes after concluding her first. “The weather today was supposed to be worse, so who knows what tomorrow brings. If the weather isn’t great, then definitely I think I left myself in an OK spot being done.”
James’ last tournament of the season, the Epson Tour Championship, is next weekend.
“I’m basically just taking a look at the stats from this week and using that to be a little better next week because it’s basically the same type of grass, same everything in that regard going up to Daytona. You can learn a lot from what you did do well here in the grass versus there.”
Even though this season is coming to an end, there is still a lot to be mentally and physically preparing for.
“I’ll take two weeks off, and then it will all be Q-School, focusing up on that. I’ll have a good month to a month and a half until the first round of it, so that’s what I’m kind of gearing for.”
James is in position for her second career Epson Tour victory.
