Anyone that has played The Links at Stoney Point knows that the 17th hole is one of the hardest on the course. Katelyn Sepmoree (Tyler, Texas) made two birdies on 17 last year and that was key in finishing in a tie for seventh.

“On certain greens on this course, you have to hit the ball in the right spot and if you do that you set yourself up for success on the difficult holes,” explained Sepmoree. “I gained a couple shots on the field with the birdies on 17 and I eagled 18 so I just had some really good holes.”

Sepmoree said she’s also very comfortable on the bermuda grass because she grew up playing on bermuda grass in Texas.

“I’m just very comfortable out here, the holes set up to my eye,” said Sepmoree. “I really like this golf course a lot. I also have a really good host family that I have stayed with now for three years (Bright family).”

Sepmoree currently ranks 48th on the Volvik Race for the Card money list. She has one top 10 finish this year and recently finished T20 two weeks ago in Georgia.

“I try to make this tournament feel like any other because it is just 18 holes like any other tournament and I have the same game plan,” said Sepmoree. “It’s always exciting to come here because they do such a good job setting up the tournament. It feels like a major.”

Sepmoree went home last week to see her long time coach, Chris Hudson.

“He knows me almost better than I know myself and we are definitely trending in the right direction,” said Sepmoree about her game and coach. “For me, it is always about gaining confidence and consistency.”

To relax and wind down in the evenings, Sepmoree has done some fishing on Lake Greenwood.

15 YEAR OLD FREYVOGEL READY

Lauren Freyvogel is just your average 15-year-old: she adores Rickie Fowler, is starting to decide on where she’ll go to college and has a ton of homework to tackle this week. The only difference is that she is also getting ready to play in a professional golf tournament.

Freyvogel won the first Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Tour Junior Challenge at the Women’s Health Classic a month ago.

“My goal is to make the cut as I’d love to play on the weekend,” said Freyvogel, who lives 20 minutes north of Pittsburgh. “This is an amazing experience and I’m so grateful to everyone involved."

Freyvogel, who arrived with her mother on Saturday, was heading back to the hotel after practice on Tuesday to finish homework. She is currently taking four honors classes at Pine-Richland High School: English, Spanish, precalculus and chemistry. She also has a career and professional development class to monitor while in Greenwood this week.

Freyvogel has three wins on the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Tour and is excited to experience professional golf this week.

“All the girls have been great,” said Freyvogel. “Rachel Rohanna (who is also from Pennsylvania) came over to talk to me yesterday and that helped a lot to just feel comfortable.”
