Strong Field in Batte Creek

Nine of the top 10 on the current money list will tee it up this week for the fourth playing of the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship. Benyapa Niphatsophon, currently second on the Volvik Race for the Card money list, headlines the field. While Niphatsophon is looking for her first win, she could likely pick up another top-5 here this week as she’s continued to play consistent golf this season. She has posted seven top-5 finishes to date.

Volvik Race for the Card

With only eight tournaments remaining on the Epson Tour schedule, players continue to jockey for position inside the top 10. The top 10 players on the Volvik Race for the Card money list at the end of the season will earn LPGA membership for the 2018 season.

Players on the cusp have an opportunity to inside the top 10 with a solid performance this week, just $2,627 separates No. 11 Sophia Popov from the No. 10 spot held by Daniela Darquea. With a winner’s payout of $15,000, anyone between 11 and 19 could move inside the top 10 with a win this week.

Looking for Another Win

Twelve players have won on Tour in 2017, eleven of which will tee it up this week at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship. Three rookies are among the eleven in search of adding another title and secure their spot in the top 10 on the money list. Daniela Darquea made history with her win at the IOA Championship; she is the first player in the history of the Epson Tour or the LPGA from Ecuador to win. Celine Boutier made a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic in May and came close to a second win a few weeks later where finished second behind Kendall Dye, also a winner in 2017. Hannah Green also in the field this week, earned her first career Epson Tour victory at the Sara Bay Classic. She has six additional top 10 finishes including a third-place finish at last week’s Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic.

Sponsor Invites

Two sisters received a special invite to compete in this week's FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship. Gabrielle and Sarah Shipley of Hastings, Michigan will compete in a field of 144 players for a share a $100,000 purse. Gabrielle turned professional in 2016 and has competed in four Epson Tour events, while sister Sarah will be a sophomore at the University of Kentucky upon returning in the Fall. In her freshman season, she helped the team qualify for the NCAA Regional Championship that was held in Columbus, Ohio.
