Margarita Ramos (Mexico City, Mexico) carded a 4-under, 68 on Saturday, signed her score card and then said hello to two women that she met when she was 13 years old and lived in Augusta, Georgia as part of the Leadbetter Academy. She followed her coach at the time practiced at Jones Creek Golf Course, which is ten minutes from Augusta National.
Ramos made four of her five birdies on Saturday on the back nine to move from T34 to a tie for eighth.
The former University of Arizona golfer recently switched her irons and rescue clubs from Taylormade to PXG. She was urged by her friend and current LPGA Tour player, Gaby Lopez, who stayed with the Ramos’ during the Founders Cup in Phoenix.
“I love them, they go so far,” said Ramos. “They are so easy to hit. I made the change right before the Sara Bay Classic (two weeks ago). I was talking to Gaby and she was like ‘you’ve got to try them’ and at first I didn’t want to, but she urged me to and it makes a difference.”
