SCHECHTER SAYS PLAYING ON LPGA WAS ‘REALLY GOOD EXPERIENCE’

Maia Schechter (Chapel Hill, NC) made her first career LPGA start last week at the LPGA Manulife Classic in Canada. Although she missed the cut, the experience was invaluable. She returns to the Epson Tour this week for the Decatur Forsyth Classic.

“Being able to know the day-to-day operations of how the LPGA works from where to register to how the locker rooms work and how the range and practice rounds work was great,” said Schechter after playing nine holes at Hickory Point. “It’s an incredible atmosphere and everyone is really good.”

“It was fun to experience it and know that it is what I am working towards.”

The taste of the LPGA has Schechter more determined than ever to get back. Her best finish on the Epson Tour this year is a tie for 23rd at the season opener.

“You don’t really know what you are working towards until you experience it,” said Schechter. “I know what the LPGA is like now and that is where I want to be.”

Not surprisingly, she admitted nerves on the first tee on day one.

“I was nervous thinking about hitting the first tee shot of my first LPGA event and I told myself to please make contact,” joked Schechter. “It felt different than I had felt week in and week out on the Epson Tour.”
