SPONSOR INVITE ALLYSON GEER SHOOTS 69: Sponsor invite Allyson Geer got off to a strong start at the Tullymore Classic firing an opening round 69.

“It was nice to come out and have a strong first round,” Geer said. “It is really awesome out here. It is really a different feel. I’ve never played in a professional event, but coming from junior golf, the golf is the same. You have to play the course, and you are playing with girls who all played junior golf and everything.”

Geer got off to a strong start turning in a bogey-free, 2-under. The back nine was a bit of a mixed bag with three birdies and a pair of bogeys.

“I wouldn’t say surprised by my round. I played well, but in golf you always feel like you could do something better, and I left a couple of putts out there that were inside 10 feet that I know I could have made,” Geer explained. “But all in all I’m pretty happy with the way I managed my misses. I didn’t make any major mistakes, and on this course you have to manage your misses.”

Despite the strong start, Geer isn’t changing her expectations for the week.

“God gives me experiences all over the place,” Geer said. “I’m just taking this one day by day and enjoying it, and not getting too far ahead of myself. I’m just enjoying the opportunity and feeling blessed for it.”

MICHIGAN STATE GRAD ALLYSSA FERRELL IN THE MIX: Michigan State grad Allyssa Ferrell finds herself five back of the lead after the opening round of the Tullymore Classic.

“With the conditions today, I just tried to hit the green and rely on my putting which is usually my strength,” Ferrell said. “I just kept plugging along and capitalizing on opportunities when they presented themselves.”

Ferrell made five birdies against a pair of bogeys to post her 3-under round. The Edgerton, Wis., native is coming off her best finish on the Epson Tour, a T5 at the Island Resort Championship.

“I seem to have found something with my swing right now,” Ferrell said with a smile. “I was struggling with the putter for a long time but then I took a week off to just regather myself and that seems to be working right now. A lot of it was mentally, because it’s easy to get down on yourself out here so I’ve just kind of worked on that and my putting and trying to believe in myself again.”

Tullymore holds a special place in Ferrell’s heart as it is where she made her debut on the Epson Tour last season finishing in a tie for 13^th.

“Last year this was my first Epson event ever so I was super excited just to be here. It’s a special place just because it did turn my career around last season. With last week going really well I was excited to come back because I love this course it’s beautiful.”

ALLISON EMREY GOES LOW: Allison Emrey posted the low round of the morning wave, a 5-under 67, to sit three shots back of Paola Moreno entering the weekend at the Tullymore Classic.

“I think just hitting the ball really well,” Emrey said. “I had a couple of short birdie chances which was nice and then I just made the putts and executed well. I had a good plan going into today and I’m very happy with where my game is at right now.”

Emrey wrapped up her day on a high note with a birdie on No. 9, her final hole of the day.

“I think it was about 10-15 feet. I just tried to focus on the line and put a smooth stroke on it and luckily it went in so that was nice,” Emrey said. “I think it will definitely bring good momentum going into tomorrow afternoon.”

The Wake Forest grad is looking to improve upon her best finish on the Epson Tour, a T15 at the Four Winds Invitational two weeks back.

“It’s been good so far,” Emrey said of her debut season on Tour. “It’s been kind of a slow start but I’m trying to stay patient because it’s a lot to handle your first year traveling alone and figuring all of your travel arrangements, new courses every week and new host families. It’s been nice. My host family came out today to watch so it’s always good to have some local support.”
