Michelle Piyapattra (Eastvale, Calif.) dunked two eagles on shots from the fairway on par-5’s and posted a 5-under, 67.
Piyapattra, 24, chipped in for eagle on the fifth and 13th holes.
“On five, I was 60 yards out and it was super windy and I was hoping it would stick near the hole and it hit the back of the cup and went in and that was big because I wasn’t making many birdies,” explained Piyapattra. “On 15, I had 30 paces to a tough pin and it went in again and I think the person that was most surprised was Emily’s caddie, Brandi Rodriguez. She was like ‘what is happening right now?’ so it was pretty cool to have those two.”
Piyapattra, a three-time All-Ivy League selection at Columbia, had two birdies and one bogey in addition to the eagles.
She has one top 10 finish this season and two for her career on the Epson Tour. She currently ranks 39th on the Volvik Race for the Card money list.
“I’m in the top 40 so I’d like to be able to go straight to Final Stage of Qualifying Tournament (top 15 after top 10) and I think it is pretty doable right now,” said Piyapattra. “I think if I play well in these next few events I have a chance, especially with people falling off now. I think people are starting to get tired so hopefully I do well enough to skip Stage II.”
