Tour officials decide to play second week of back-to-back tournaments in Garden City at Buffalo Dunes
GARDEN CITY, KANSAS, September 9, 2016 - The Epson Tour, Road to the LPGA, announced today that the second week of the Garden City back-to-back will be played at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course instead of The Golf Club at Southwind due to course conditions that sprouted up over the last few weeks.
The tournament will still be played Thursday, September 15 through Saturday, September 17 at Buffalo Dunes and the purse size will remain $100,000. The winner will earn $15,000.
“The Golf Club at Southwind is a premier golf course that has hosted top events and I know our players were excited to play there,” said Epson Tour Chief Business Officer, Mike Nichols. “The course was in fantastic condition when we visited both last year and just a few months ago, but unfortunately an unforeseen fungus has impacted a couple of the greens and has affected our ability to host a championship level event next week. The timing is unfortunate because it is clear that given a couple of weeks of additional growing time, the course will be back to its typical first-class standards.”
“The intent of this experiment was to spend two weeks in this wonderful community that has been so supportive of the Tour and our players,” continued Nichols. “I’m happy to say that our players and staff will remain in Garden City for two weeks with the only difference being that we will stay at Buffalo Dunes this year.”
The Garden City Charity Classic at Buffalo Dunes will continue as scheduled this weekend.
