JAMES IS NOW 21-UNDER IN FIVE ROUNDS AT RAINTREE

Augusta James continued her domination of Raintree Country Club on Saturday with a 67. In five career competitive rounds in the Epson Classic dating back to last year, she is 21-under (66-71-67-68-67).

James made four birdies, an eagle on 11 and just one bogey on Saturday.

“The birdie on the last wasn’t one I was expecting, but it definitely gives me momentum going into Sunday,” said James. “There are some courses that just fit your eye and when you come across one on Tour you have to take advantage.”

James will go for her second career win on Sunday. She won the Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial last year.

REYNOLDS HOLES OUT FROM 165, READY FOR NEXT WEEK

Jean Reynolds (Newnan, Ga.) got off to a slow start in her second round, bogeying two of her first three holes and finishing 2-over through nine. On No. 1, her tenth hole, she got back the two strokes she dropped early by draining her approach from 165-yards out in the fairway.

Reynolds said she debated changing the club in her hand for the shot, but trusted her caddy’s judgment.

“I actually was going to switch clubs and then my caddy Pat here, my buddy, was like, ‘No, that’s the number, you’ve been hitting it close,’” Reynolds explained. “So I just stuck with it and I hit a 5-iron, and it hit 15 feet short and released beautifully, and just went in the hole.”

Next week, the Georgia native will play in the inaugural Gosling’s Dark n’ Stormy Classic at Atlanta National Golf Club, which is about 70 miles from her hometown of Newnan. Reynolds, who sits at 2-under going into the final-round in Charlotte, has some experience at the course but says it’s been years since she last saw it.

“I’ve played Atlanta National a couple of times, but it’s been so long ago I hardly remember anything about it,” said Reynolds. “But it’s a good track, I know that.”

OLYMPIC HOPEFUL HANNEMANN HAS BEST ROUND IN 9-10 YEARS
Candy Hannemann, a mother of two young daughters, carded a 6-under 66 to move from T82 to a tie for eighth at 4-under, 140.

“I played really well today and made a lot of putts,” said Hannemann. “I’ve been working a lot on my putting and it all came together and I am pumped.”

Hannemann attempted just 26 putts after taking 33 on Friday.

In Hannemann’s gallery on Saturday was current South Carolina women’s golf coach, Karen Anderson, who was a teammate of Hannemann’s at Duke back in the early 00’s.

QUICK NOTES

Jordan Rose made a hole-in-one on the par-3 14th hole on Saturday. However, she carded a 2-over 74 and missed the cut at 3-over, 147. It was the second hole-in-one of the tournament. Emma de Groot made an ace on the par-3 eighth hole on Friday.
Volvik Race for the Card No. 1 Madelene Sagstrom (Enkoping, Sweden) missed the cut for the first time this season after making a double-bogey on the 18th hole to close at 3-over.
Amateur exemption Kelly Whaley (UNC freshman) carded a 3-under 69 to make the cut and is T36. She is the first amateur exemption in tournament history to make the cut.
