DePaulo excited to compete in honor of mom who lost courageous bout with Colon Cancer
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., April 8, 2016 - The Epson Tour, Road to the LPGA, in conjunction with the Legends Tour announced today the final two sponsor exemptions for the 2016 Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial. Lisa DePaulo (Austin, Texas) has been added to the Legends Tour field while Alexandria Jacobsen (Palm City, Florida) will compete in the Epson Tour event.
First-round play begins on Thursday, April 14 for the Epson Tour and runs through Sunday, April 17. The Legends Tour will play a 36-hole tournament starting on Saturday, April 16. The two Tours will compete for separate purses, but play and finish together over the weekend.
DePaulo, a two-time winner on the FUTURES Tour (now Epson Tour) and current Legends Tour player, is back competing after taking 2013 and 2014 off to attend to her mother, who was battling Stage IV Colon Cancer. After a courageous battle, her mom passed away in October 2014 at the age of 75.
“My mom’s favorite place to shop was Chico’s and she would generally go after her chemotherapy to get her ‘Retail Therapy’,” explained DePaulo, who played at Texas in the late 80’s. “She would be in the changing rooms hooked to her 46-hour chemo cocktail and trying on clothes and was waited on like a Queen. I am so grateful for this exemption and I plan on making Chico’s and my mom smile and spread the word about getting your Colonoscopy on time. Don’t wait, it could mean your life!
DePaulo made 53 career starts on the LPGA Tour.
Jacobsen, a three-time Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year while at Stetson, has played on the Epson Tour for the last five years.
“I am so excited to be given the opportunity to play this event,” said Jacobsen, who played in 11 events in 2015. “It’s one of our biggest purses of the year and it’s awesome to have a chance to play with the Legends Tour. I grew up watching and idolizing them and now to have a chance to play side-by-side is very cool. These women brought the game of golf to where it is today and I am grateful to be part of this event.”
Jacobsen is a two-time winner of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Golf Championship. She finished T23 at the IOA Championship to start the 2016 season.
The Epson Tour field is comprised of 156 aspiring LPGA stars while the Legends Tour field features 30 former LPGA Tour players including seven Hall-of-Famers. In addition to $30,000, the winner’s will also receive the Chico’s Winner’s Jacket, a black blazer with Chico’s signature leopard print lining. In 2015, Epson Tour rookie, Augusta James, coasted to victory while 2-time LPGA Tour winner, Laurie Rinker edged Rosie Jones and Barb Mucha on the Legends Tour side. In 2014, Min Seo Kwak won the inaugural event and currently ranks No. 48 on the LPGA official money.
All proceeds from the Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial will benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
