BOSTON, March 21, 2016 – A field that includes seven members of the LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame will pair with the Epson Tour for the third annual Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial.
Set for the week of April 11-17 at Cypress Lake Country Club in Fort Myers, Fla., the tournament will once again bring together the legends of women’s golf to compete alongside the game’s future stars.
The field features Hall of Famers Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley, JoAnne Carner, Sandra Haynie, Nancy Lopez, Patty Sheehan and Hollis Stacy.
In addition, Legends Tour member Laurie Rinker of Stuart, Fla., will return to defend her title in the unique tournament format pairing LPGA veterans and LPGA hopefuls.
“I really enjoyed getting to know the Epson Tour players and watching them play,” said Rinker. “I saw so much talent and it was a lot of fun playing alongside them in our respective competitions.”
This year’s third annual event with mark the second year the two tours have combined simultaneous events. Players from the Legends Tour and Epson Tour will compete for separate purses.
The Epson Tour’s 72-hole event will begin play on Thursday, April 14 and run through Sunday, April 17, with a 36-hole cut to the low 60 scores and ties.
The Legends Tour 36-hole tournament will begin on Saturday, April 16 and conclude simultaneously with the Epson Tour event on Sunday, April 17. One Legends Tour player will be added to each pairing on the weekend alongside two Epson Tour members.
The Epson Tour field will consist of 156 players, including 12 of the top players from the Taiwan Ladies Professional Golf Association (TLPGA) for the first time. The tournament purse for the Epson Tour portion will be $200,000, with the winner earning $30,000.
The Legends Tour field of 30 players age 45 and over will compete for a $150,000 purse, with the winner earning $30,000.
“Winning is winning at any level and it is always great,” added Rinker. “After retiring from the LPGA, I wasn't sure if I would get a chance to compete again, but The Legends Tour has given me that opportunity.”
Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida has been named the beneficiary of the Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial. All tournament proceeds will benefit the local Fort Myers hospital and Epson Tour players will visit Golisano Children’s Hospital during the week of the tournament.
