Greenwood, SC event takes advantage of Epson purse subsidy to raise the bar again

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (October 28, 2015) – The Epson Tour, Road to the LPGA, is excited to announce that the 2016 Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic has increased its total purse from $200,000 to $250,000 and now boasts the largest purse in the 35-year history of the Epson Tour. The third-year event will be played at The Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood, South Carolina from May 5-8.

The winner will receive $37,500, the largest winner’s payout in Tour history, and have a great chance to earn an LPGA Tour card.

“We are grateful to Jim and Denise Medford and the entire Self Regional Foundation Women’s Health Classic team for their continued support of the LPGA dreams of our players and once again setting a new bar for the entire Epson Tour,” said Chief Business Officer Mike Nichols. “It’s a great sign that tournaments are showing immediate interest in the Epson purse matching program.”

In 2014, the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic became the first $200,000 event in Tour history. In 2015, the Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge created a $210,000 purse to become the largest purse in Tour history. Now, the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic is back with the highest payout on Tour.

“The Epson Tour has been so good for this community and many of the players have become like family so we are thrilled to be able to add onto the purse to help these players,” said Jim Medford. “We are proud to partner with Epson in raising the purse for our event and we hope that other tournaments take advantage as well.”

The Epson Tour’s total year-long purse is expected to rise from $2.8 million in 2015 to nearly $4 million in 2016 due in large part to Epson’s purse subsidy program. In 2013, when the schedule featured just 15 events, the year-long purse was at $1.62 million.

The winners of the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic have both finished inside the top 10 to earn LPGA cards. Inaugural winner Wei-Ling Hsu finished sixth on the Volvik Race for the Card money list in 2014 while Alejandra Llaneza closed at seventh this year. In her Rookie Year on the LPGA Tour, Hsu currently stands at 54th on the Race to the CME Globe.
