Saturday Tournament Notes

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., October 17, 2015 - Catherine O’Donnell (Ponte Vedra, Florida) posted her third straight under-par round to move to 13-under, 203, to take the 54-hole lead into the final day of the 2015 season at the Epson Tour Championship. O’Donnell punctuated a 2-under, 70, with a birdie on the final hole to grab a three shot lead over Brianna Do (Lakewood, California) and Cydney Clanton (Concord, North Carolina).

O’Donnell ranks 59th on the Volvik Race for the Card money list with one top 10 finish this season. Although she can’t earn an LPGA Tour card, she can bypass Stage II of LPGA Qualifying Tournament with a win.

“It was a solid round, I hit the best shot I could each time,” said O’Donnell. “There was one hiccup but it was really solid.”

After a double-bogey on hole 16, her only under-par score since round one, O’Donnell closed with a 5-foot birdie putt on 18.

“It’s great momentum going into Sunday,” said the three-time All-ACC selection at UNC. “Making a birdie on the last hole feels really good and it kick starts me for tomorrow.”

O’Donnell has five career top 10 finishes, but no wins in three seasons on the Epson Tour. Her best finish is a tie for fourth at the 2013 Credit Union Challenge.

“I’m not going to sugar coat it, I’m playing really solid,” said O’Donnell. “I’m hitting my numbers, hitting the putts on the lines I want and it’s just a comfort thing. It would be great not to play next week, 23 events is a long season. We’re in late October now so the goal is to have next week off and I can do that with a win tomorrow.”

No. 12 on the Volvik Race for the Card money list, Brianna Do, made a big move up the leaderboard courtesy of a 5-under 67 to get to 10-under 206. Do heads into the final round in a three-way tie for second, which would net her $10,577, which would likely move her into the final top 10 to earn an LPGA Tour card.

“Same gameplan, it’s pedal to the metal,” said Do about Sunday. “If I don’t get it done here I’d have to go to Q-School and I don’t want to do that so I’m going to just keep my foot on that pedal. It’d (earning an LPGA card) mean a lot of hard work paid off and it’d be a fun year to look forward to but I’m just going to
concentrate on tomorrow and what I need to do first.”

No. 13 on the money list, Lindy Duncan, closed with birdies on 17 and 18 to finish at even-par for the day and is in a tie for eighth at 7-under.

The final-round will begin on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Players will start from the first and tenth tees. The final group of O’Donnell, Do and Clanton will tee at 11:12 p.m. The Epson Tour Championship trophy ceremony will take place at approximately 4:00 p.m. on the 18th green. The LPGA Tour card ceremony will take place at approximately 5:15 p.m. in the LPGA International clubhouse ballroom.
