DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA, June 2, 2014 – Epson Tour member Cheyenne Woods qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open on May 28 in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Country Club at DC Ranch.
Woods, the niece of PGA TOUR star Tiger, has played in eight of nine Epson Tour events thus far. She has made the cut in all eight with her best finish coming at the first event, a T14 at the Visit Mesa Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Club.
Woods currently ranks 50th on the Volvik Race for the Card money list.
Tour: What was your reaction when you realized you qualified?
Woods: I was extremely nervous watching scores come in. Once I had finally seen that I had earned my spot, it was a combination of relief, excitement, and pride after the long 36 holes I had played.
Tour: What are you looking forward to most?
Woods: I am looking forward to competing at the highest level possible in professional golf. And to play at a course with such history as #2 at Pinehurst does, it will be an honor.
Tour: Anyone you’d like to play with?
Woods: Not one in particular but I know it will be a special week and a great experience playing side by side with the world's best.
Tour: Have you played in the U.S. Open before?
Woods: This will be my second US Open. I qualified in 2012 to play at Blackwolf Run, and failed to qualify in 2013.
Tour: Has it always been a dream to play in the U.S. Open?
Woods: It's a dream to play in any LPGA Major Championship. You are competing against the best of the best in the world at a course in absolutely perfect condition; it doesn't get much better than that.
