Epson Tour returns to Albany to begin critical Northeast swing

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA, July 14, 2014 – The Epson Tour, the Road to the LPGA, is a week away from returning to Albany for the SEFCU Championship at Capital Hills from July 25-27 at Capital Hills at Albany. Ashlan Ramsey and Alexandra Buelow were announced today as the two sponsor exemptions.

Ramsey, Buelow and the 144-player field comprised of the top up-and-coming women’s golfers in the world will be competing for their share of the $100,000 total purse. The winner will receive $15,000 and take a significant step towards an LPGA Tour card for the 2015 season.

Ramsey, who played one year of college golf at Clemson before turning professional, was the top-ranked amateur in the world according to Golfweek during her 2013-14 season at Clemson. The 18-year-old was part of the U.S. Curtis Cup team that defeated Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I) in June of 2014.

“It will be exciting, I’ve never played before (Epson Tour event) but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it,” said Ramsey. “There are a lot of really good players on the Epson Tour so it will be a good experience for me to test my game against them and see kind of where I am at.”

In her first two events as a professional, Ramsey finished in a tie for second at both the PGA Women’s Open in Michigan and Texas.

“I’ve been talking to a lot of girls and not many people get these opportunities when they first turn professional. It will definitely be a great experience and I’m looking forward to seeing how it is out there (Epson Tour).”

In her lone year at Clemson, Ramsey notched two victories and a team high six top-10 finishes. She was twice named the ACC Golfer of the Month.

In 2011 and 2012, Ramsey was honored by the AJGA as a First-Team All-American. She was the top junior in the state of Georgia in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Ramsey is also expected to play the following week in Syracuse at the Credit Union Classic presented by Wegmans.

Buelow, who is in her fourth year on the Epson Tour, has played in four events so far this year and a total of 45 career events. Her best finish on the Epson Tour is a tie for 14^th at the 2011 Daytona Beach Invitational.

The Palm City, Florida native was a star at Stetson University. She was a three-time Atlantic Sun conference Player of the Year (2009-2012). She was also the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year in 2010.

Prior to Stetson, she captured the 2009 Florida State Women’s Amateur Golf Association’s championships in match play and stroke play.
