The 2014 Epson Tour season tees off at the 2nd Annual Visit Mesa Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Club on Friday, February 21 in Mesa, Ariz. The Friday through Sunday 54-hole tournament features a purse of $100,000.
This week’s field is packed with 120 exciting players aiming to get off to a strong start in the Volvik Race for the Card. The top-ten finishers on the Epson Tour will receive their fully exempt LPGA Tour cards for the 2015 season.
A cut will be made after 36 holes to the low 70 scores and ties.
NOTABLE PLAYERS IN THE FIELD
Cheyenne Woods – Woods, the niece of PGA star Tiger Woods and a Phoenix native, is fresh off her first career victory on a major professional tour at the Volvik RACV Australian Ladies Masters on February 9. The 23-year old fired a final-round 69 to claim the win. Woods is embarking on her rookie season on the Epson Tour. She played golf collegiately at Wake Forest.
Jaclyn Sweeney – Defending champion Sweeney, who shot a final-round 67 to win the inaugural Visit Mesa Gateway Classic at Longbow Country Club last season. She has two career victories and four career top-10 finishes. Sweeney competed in the first two LPGA events this year, the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic and the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open. The 24-year old played her college golf at nearby Arizona State where she was part of the 2009 Pac-10 and NCAA National Championship team.

Longbow Golf Club is a par-72 golf course with a total yardage of 6,506. It was rated amongst the "Top 100 Resort Courses in the Country" and ranked as "One of The Top 20 Best Courses You Can Play in Arizona", by Golfweek Magazine.
EPSON TOUR
Known as the Official Qualifying Tour of the LPGA, the Epson Tour added five new events this season, including the Tour’s first-ever $200,000 purse at the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Charity Classic that will be held in Greenwood, S.C. May 8-11. The last time the Tour hosted more than 20 events was in 1989, when the Epson Tour consisted of 21 total tournaments. Over 300 Epson Tour alumnae have LPGA Tour status including Karrie Webb, Inbee Park and Cristie Kerr.
