LONGWOOD, FLORIDA, March 17, 2014 – The Epson Tour, the official Road to the LPGA, is back in Central Florida the week of March 24 for the IOA Golf Classic at Alaqua Country Club. On Monday, a press conference was held at Alaqua Country Club.
The IOA Golf Classic will feature 144 of the top up-and-coming players in women’s golf. The field will be competing for a total purse of $100,000 with the winner taking home $15,000.
Volvik Championship winner Kim Kaufman and former UCF golfer Stephanie Connelly were on hand to talk about the IOA Golf Classic and their excitement to play close to home. Kaufman currently resides in Heathrow while Connelly lives in Jacksonville.
“When I saw the IOA Golf Classic on the schedule I was so excited because it’s so close to home,” said Kaufman. “I’m looking forward to playing Alaqua next week and I think it will be a great event.”
Calaneet Balas, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, was also at the press conference to talk about the OCNA and their involvement in the IOA Classic.
On March 27, pros from the Epson Tour will tee off for the first ever Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Pro-Am, as part of the IOA Golf Classic. Up to ten teams will participate in the pro-am on behalf of the OCNA, with each team consisting of three amateur players and a professional from the Epson Tour. A donation of $500 will be made to the ONCA for each participating team, up to a total of $5,000.
Funds raised by the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Pro Am will go to the organization’s mission of supporting women and men who are affected by ovarian cancer. The Alliance serves as a voice for this community, educates the public about this deadly disease and provides support services to women who are diagnosed.
The Epson Tour is in Lake Wales for the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic at Lake Wales Country Club this week. First round play begins on Friday, March 21.
