Hunting is king in Kansas. When the Epson Tour made the five hour drive from eastern Kansas to western Kansas for the inaugural Garden City Charity Classic, three players had the unique opportunity to go dove hunting.
When you go to the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism website you get a feel for how important hunting is to Kansas residents.
"Hunting in Kansas can be described with one word: variety. From east to west, north to south, Kansas has a rich and diverse array of habitat and game species. The hunting heritage runs deep in Kansas, and hunting is important to the quality of life and rural economies. Unique hunting opportunities wait on the eastern and western borders, and the central region provides a blend."
Tournament organizers and Garden City natives helped set up the hunting trip for Epson Tour professionals Shannon Fish, Ashley Tait and Kendal Dye.
The players were driven down to a wide open field that was perfect for dove hunting.
Shannon Fish, a hunting guru, was dressed to the nines in camouflage and her red, white and blue bandana. Modest hunter Kendall Dye sported camouflage shorts and hunting rookie Ashley Tait borrowed a camouflage shirt to head out.
Two area hunting professionals helped the Tour professionals with the best locations to wait for the doves and were there to help with with proper technique. They were also a big help with spotting the doves as they flew by.
All three were able to have a little fun and enjoy a Kansas tradition before they refocus on the second to last Epson Tour event of the season.
