Casey Grice received the inaugural ANNIKA Academy Elite Athlete Award on Tuesday night. Take a look at her latest blog and be sure to read more from Casey's first year on the Epson Tour.
What an honor it was to receive the inaugural ANNIKA Academy Elite Athlete Award last night. Annika Sorenstam was my favorite player to watch growing up. I admired her golf game, the focus she had on the course and how she truly created a winning atmosphere around her during her career.
First and foremost, the main thing I took from the sessions was that being successful on the golf course is not just about a mechanically sound golf swing. There are several aspects that need attention to truly be at the top of your game. Each developmental session focused on one of these aspects - nutrition, fitness, the swing, club fitting, and the mental game. Annika herself would conduct the sessions or one of the members of her team would be there such as her fitness instructor (Kai Fusser), her sister and fellow LPGA Champion (Charlotta Sorenstam), and others. This opportunity to learn from the best and those who helped Annika become the best was priceless.
Throughout this season on the Epson Tour we have had the opportunity to attend developmental sessions as apart of the new partnership between the ANNIKA Academy and the Epson Tour. These sessions were geared to teach us the holistic "winning approach" that Annika encompassed during her career as a professional golfer. The lessons we learned at each of these sessions could then show us how to create our own winning approach on and off the golf course.
Thank you to the ANNIKA Academy and the Epson Tour for creating a wonderful partnership to help the players on the Road to the LPGA know what it takes to truly be the best at every level, but also giving us tangible ways to move towards those goals. I know each session took lots of work behind the scenes and for my rookie year it was a great experience!
Finally, thank you to Annika Sorenstam. She has been such a great role model for women's golf and continues to give back to the game anyway she can. The "winning approach" she took to her golf game has poured over into her life each day. I can only hope to follow in her footsteps and also give back to this great game that we all love.
