Rookie Sensation

While most rookies on both the Epson and LPGA Tour’s use their rookie season as a bit of an adjustment period, Mi Hyang Lee could be the exception. A rookie on both tours, Lee excelled on the Epson Tour in 2012 by not only earning Rookie of the Year honors but also improving her status on next year’s LPGA by finishing sixth on the season-ending Volvik Race for the Card.

The 19-year-old did not waste any time getting off to a hot start during her rookie season as she opened the year with two top-four finishes at the first two events. The impressive start landed her safely inside the Volvik Race for the Card top-10 for the first seven weeks, reaching as high as No. 3.

It wasn’t until a missed cut on week eight at the Northeast Delta Dental International that Lee found herself outside the illusive top-10 for the first time during her rookie season. Lee went on to find herself off the leaderboard for a lengthy six weeks until she recorded her first-career victory at the Epson Classic in Week 14.

Her win moved her to fourth in the Race but was then bumped to fifth after not playing in the Vidalia Championship the following week. After a tied for 11^th finish at the season-ending Daytona Beach Invitational Presented by Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Lee concluded the year sixth on the Volvik Race for the Card.

Lee proved she was a force to be reckoned with on the 2012 Epson Tour as she ended the year inside the top-10 in seven out of 11 statistical categories including first in eagles and third in greens in regulation.
